Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Little League
2022 Season COVID-19 Safe Practices
Grosse Pointe Woods Shores Little League Families,
We are so grateful to be able to offer a chance to get on the diamonds. We understand this is an unprecedented time and we will make every effort to follow guidelines from the CDC, State, and Little League to keep your child safe during the baseball and softball season this summer. These guidelines are changing on a weekly basis and we will continue to monitor and make adjustments as necessary. Here is a list of the safety precautions we are following:
- If a player, volunteer or any individual is not feeling well then it is required to stay home and not participate in related league activities.
- Social distancing for teams not in field – we will utilize the full bullpen and dugout areas for each child to have their equipment and be distanced from others. Should your family feel more comfortable with your child sitting with you that is OK.
- No food (seeds, gum, etc.)
- No sharing of equipment
- No sharing catcher's gear (any league catcher's gear will be cleaned at end of game/practice); one catcher per game per set of gear; no catchers for collegiate league – if for some reason a change in catcher is required (e.g., injury) equipment can be sanitized by manager with disinfectant wipes
- No sharing or communal water bottles
- No Spitting
- Limited physical contact as dictated by game play. No post-game high fives, handshakes etc.
- Masks will be required for managers / coaches in situations where social distancing cannot be practiced ie. Assessing and tending to an injury.
- Umpires have a choice to either call from behind the pitcher or stay a bit further behind the catcher
We understand that the guidance is evolving and we will adapt and follow recommendations accordingly as vaccines and additional safety measures are deployed.
A player or volunteer that is exposed and /or tests positive must cease all baseball activities and quarantine according to local health department guidelines.
Our managers and coaches will help remind the players of the guidelines and will set an example in following safe practices. This will not be perfect, but please know we take your child’s safety seriously and will do everything we can to ensure it. If you have concerns, please bring them to your manager’s attention or a member of the board. We are excited to see everyone on the fields and look forward to a great season.
